The Friends of the Nightingale Macmillan Unit have been a group of people who voluntarily gave of their time to increase public awareness of the needs of the patients receiving care at the Nightingale Macmillan Unit, Royal Derby Hospital, Derby. The 'Friends' also raised funds and invited and received donations from persons and organisations in order that they were able to meet the requests placed upon them for additional equipment and or services, with the aim of improving the quality of life of those cared for by the medical staff and volunteers at the unit. Due to a number of factors but mainly associated with the move of it's location to the new Royal Derby Hospital, the 'Friends', which have been operating for nearly twenty years as an independent charity, will be dissolving at the end of February 2010. This DOES NOT mean that the Nightingale Macmillan Unit no longer requires your support, on the contrary it is suggested that it requires even more of your support since they will not have an independent body organising fund raising events in the future to bring in additional funds. |
